Planning a hinge model

next >

The hinge model will be movable. Any Pro-desktop model that has moving parts needs to be made of separate files assembled together. This model will use two parts, that means two files.

You will need :

  • A Hinge
  • A ruler
  • Pencil & paper for rough sketches.
  • time to think carefully about it (especially the view you are working on).

Start in roughly this order:
1
Your hinge model will need sketches made on 2 workplanes. Some workplanes may need more than one sketch on it.
Tools used:
Start drawing the end view on one hinge. Draw a Circle and a rectangle drawing & delete segment
Resize each shape so that it's the same as a real hinge. Sketch dimension
2
Extrude for the length of the hinge plate Extrusion
3
On a perpendicular workplane, draw screw holes. construction line, equal radius constraint
4
Extrude to cut out the holes extrude>subtract material
5
Draw cutouts so that the hinges fit together rectangles & colinear constraint
6
Assemble the two components assembly, mating & centre axis
7
Change the cutouts for the other half select lines
8 Checking the work.

the process can be followed in different orders most of the time. Some steps require another page to be completed first.

  {Consider reading the ProDesktop files, the most recent version has quite well written Help documents. Just press F1 in the program and it opens.}
