open frames siteThis tutorial aims to show you how to create a search form in Microsoft Access. I am going to assume that you have at least seen Access and have a vague idea of what access does.  At the end you will have a page that contains a box which you can type in the weather condition you would like to see, when you have pressed "go" it draws up a list of places that offer those conditions. Often you would want to produce a list filtered by by 2 criteria, such as our case which is the minimum temperate as well as the region in the country. So if you live in Scotland- and you want to know which towns were above 10 deg C in the day you would be able to generate the list ready to print out

Notes on the conventions in this tutorial
Some pictures are actually Rollover images. This means if you pass the curser over it, the picture swaps to another image
to illustrate the point without taking up too much screen space

Open the database which is provided via the link. In it you will find a table of data- which is set of weather conditions found in the Internet. In it there are only two things,

  • a table - which  contains the raw data.
  • A simple query called qryParam, which you can use to perform some simple tests. If you type in 12 in the parameter box (which appears when you open the query) it should display a list of only 3 locations and their data. (Jersey, Pershore, Yeovilton.

 The imported database

hover the mouse over to see the next stage.

 What it does

Since there are only 2 parts to the database - the table of data & one very simple query- why not open the query & see for yourself what happens.
 =
If you type in 12 in the dialog box, then OK it should list these places seen RIGHT.

The system as it stands allows the filter to be varied, but it's too easy to make a mistake, or just to be unaware of what input is really required. Some restriction should be added as well as much more clarity for the end user.
