CAD modeller used in many schools across the UK & elsewhere. this is new to me at this time, so some learning is underway on my part. I've got to the point where I'm quite enjoying it now [20/10/02]. It's bigger brother Pro engineer in a professional quality solid modeller which students can transfer their skills to (I'm told).

Below are the results of my first few renders. Once accustomed to the modelling methodology, this software is fairly easy to use. It does have some limitations, especially in the spline drawing tools, the renderer and more seriously in application stability.
Tutorial index. I have written two tutorials for Pro Desktop, one on modelling, the other on Rendering photo-realistic pictures

As above- but with some further development- an armlift is added along with
angled headset & changes to some dimensions

There are 3 renders in this section, showing different views

As part of a Year 7 graphic products course, students were required to closely examine the properties of the most mundane of products the clothes peg. Students will go on to modelling in Pro D in Year 8 (13 year olds).

As part of preparation for a school teaching project these three camera models were made in a relatively short time. Not much more than an hour each.

 as above - part 2
For the below project, but here is a closer render of a single camera.
Free form Camera modeling exercise. This model was strictly made up as I went along. I had no reference material, measurements or anything. I can almost hear the horror amonst CAD operatives out there! But this was a design/concept approach.
Inspired by a Computer Arts magazine tutorial (incidentally for Truespace 3). It seemed such a good idea - I thought I'd try it. It's a good mechanism for setting up linked animatable objects. Also it has room to grow with avaiable spare time, the armboard can bea added to a turntable, which will need a platter, lid and so on.

It seemed like hell to start with, I suppose because it is so different to the way I'm used to working , but I have to say- also because of the software stability problem. Having said that, i get fewer problems with my PC at home (Athon 1700+, 512Mb RAM, Geforce 2) than we do at school. Now though I am quite enjoying using this applicatoin. The students at school are picking it up reasonably quickly also. I hope to post up some of their work in teh student section in the next month.
